Maui temples to observe Peace Day | News, Sports, Jobs

Makawao Buddhist Temple will celebrate Peace Day 2023 from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Hongwanji Buddhist Temples of Maui will mark the day through reflection, meditation and the folding of origami cranes, a symbol of the universal human aspiration for peace and harmony for all people and forms of life, according to an announcement.

Welcome will be at 9 a.m., followed by a Buddhist service at 9:10 a.m. by the Rev. Kerry Kiyohara and special guest speaker the Rev. Shinkai Murakami. A meditation extended session will be at 9:45 a.m., followed by peace activities at 10:15 a.m. and light vegan refreshments at 11 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public, with parking at the temple grounds. The temple is located at 1074 Makawao Ave.
